I am wondering what are the possibilities to convert HEIF (.heic, High Efficiency Image File Format) pictures on Ubuntu as the viewing options are still limited.

Imagemagick, as of 7.0.7-22, can be compiled with the --with-libheif flag.

Tifig is a HEIF image converter, see other answer (which will soon be posted).

Apart from these you can also use several online converters. Google Photos and Dropbox also support HEIF and can convert the files.
